Well, I've been home for quite some time now. We got back the 20th of July.
I'm all settled back into my air conditioned, clean water, carpeted, roof over my head, fridge full of food, cable, and internet apartment and I feel so guilty. Guilty and beyond thankful for what I have been given.
Just the pure chance that I was born in a country that has all these things.
It's hard to put into words my trip to Haiti. It was, to put it simply, heart breaking. The devastation there is so bad, it was terrible.
Driving from the airport to our compound was the saddest experience I have had.
We met so many wonderful children, as you can see from the picture above.
If I could have, I would have taken at least 2372387 kids home with me. :)
We saw a village that, according to our Haitian interpreters,
was the worst poverty even they had ever seen, and they live there.
Babies with the big bellies running around naked, families fighting for food, children without parents just wandering around, it was bad.
We were told not to touch the children because they
could and probably have diseases that are spread easily.
Of course, I picked up a kid who was crying and couldn't find his parent.
I know it was a bad move, but you know you would have too.
Brian had a great trip too, we both plan on going back.
It was awesome to see his heart change while we were there.
He loved being around the children.
Now that we're back home he smiles at
every single kid and comments about how cute they are. :)
We did some amazing things while were were in Haiti.
We started and almost finished a duplex, fed a starving village,
married 2 couples, and played with many many many children.
There really aren't words to say about this trip,
so I'll let these next
pictures do the rest of the talking.
